Many higher education institutions in the Commonwealth of Virginia are committed to increasing student voter participation and engagement for the November 3, 2020 general election.

The Virginia Campus Voting Challenge is a nonpartisan challenge to provide state level recognition for the work Virginia campuses are doing to increase nonpartisan democratic engagement and student voter participation. This challenge is modeled on the ALL IN Challenge’s national awards and will use campus voter registration and voter turnout rates based on NSLVE reports to provide state level awards. Campus Compact for Virginia will be issuing the awards and your institution does not need to be a member of Campus Compact. Campuses only need to be participating in the ALL IN Challenge.

We will be publicly announcing the challenge on Tuesday, August 25.

Please join us for a webinar explaining how the Virginia Campus Voting Challenge works on Wednesday, August 26th from 12-1pm ET.

Campus Compact for Virginia is facilitating this voting challenge in collaboration with the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge, a national nonpartisan nonprofit that supports more than 700 colleges and universities to institutionalize nonpartisan democratic engagement.

Awards will be based on campuses’ National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement (NSLVE) reports generated by the Institute for Democracy & Higher Education at Tufts University.  There will be several award categories for both 4-year institutions and 2-year institutions, awarded based on student voter participation in the November 2020 election using data from the National Study of Learning, Voting and Engagement, (NSLVE)

By joining the ALL IN Challenge, you will automatically be participating in the Virginia Campus Voting Challenges as well. The Virginia Campus Voting Challenge will provide additional recognition at the state level for the same work that campuses do to participate in the national ALL IN Challenge.

Institutions that opt into the Challenge will be provided guidance and tools to create an action plan for increasing student engagement on their campus. There is no sign-up cost to participate.

If you have questions you can email Ryan Drysdale, assistant director of the ALL IN Challenge: ryan {at} civicnation(.)org.
